First planet ever confirmed around a Sun-like star (1995); a “hot Jupiter” with a year of 4.231 days.
As of 2026, no telescope can show this one; it is here to be understood, not spotted.
51 Pegasi b takes about 4.2 Earth days to go once round 51 Pegasi.
51 Pegasi b has at least 148 times the mass of Earth.
Anything light from there tells us is news 50.64 years old.

| Distance from us | 50.64 light-years |
|---|---|
| Once round its orbit | 4.231 days |
Its mass here is a minimum, 0.4641 Jupiter masses, from the star’s wobble (Rosenthal et al. 2021): the tilt of its orbit is not known for certain. A 2026 measurement of the tilt gives a true mass of 0.61 Jupiter masses (Cont et al. 2026), which two earlier studies disagree with.
It belongs to 51 Pegasi, 50.64 light-years away.
